Advanced Courses
Portugal: Memories of the End of the Empire
Memories of the End of the Empire is an advanced postgraduate course that performs a “spectrography” – in every sense – of the tracks of Portugal’s past in Africa. The process of building a memory of Africa, the battlefield of building a contemporary memory of colonialism and its problematic ends and the horizons of a possible common memory of this complex time, which combines past and present, are at the centre of the reflections launched in the course.
Subalternities in the South Atlantic
An advanced postgraduate course dedicated to the South Atlantic, in particular its foundation/training and the historical, political, social and cultural consequences that have determined it and project on the contemporary horizon. The route, which renews the tradition of elearning courses “Postcolonial-Atlantic South Studies” is genealogical: it starts from contemporaneity to analyse the effects of the slave trade in different contexts such as that of Portugal and Brazil and deepens the knowledge of the narratives dating back to the beginnings of the conceptual, political and social space of the southern Atlantic.
Good Governance, Citizenship and Human Rights
The concepts of good governance, participation and democracy have gained enormous prominence in the discourse and practice of cooperation over the last two decades (Doornbos 2001). Regardless of the definitional difficulties they present, there is a consensus on their importance for development – either as a means to development or as an end in itself to development.
Translation and Linguistic Information Technologies
This course aims to develop competences with the goal of mastering translation methods and practices, using reliable linguistic tools and information management, exploitation and organisation technologies, with particular emphasis on computational technologies.
Introduction to International Cooperation for Development
The overall objective of the course is to provide trainees with basic skills involving the mechanisms of cooperation for development, including the design of projects and the strategy of Portuguese cooperation for development, seeking to articulate the practical component with the theory and current challenges.
