How to apply

Grant renewals
Undergraduate studies
Scholarships that are valid for one academic year are renewable for an equal period until the course finishes.
The grant renewal process requires the submission of all the necessary documents by the 31st of December each year. In cases where the student is sitting exams in December, the time limit may be extended until the 31st of January of the same academic year in which the renewal request is being made.
Graduate and post-graduate studies
Post-graduate scholarships are for the duration of the course and cannot be renewed.
Masters scholarships are valid for one year and can be renewed for a further 6 months, if applicable, after which another 6 months can be awarded to complete a thesis.
PhD scholarships are valid for one year and renewable for the same period up to a maximum of two renewals. This period may be increased by 1 year for completion of the course.
The Masters and PhD scholarship renewal process requires all the necessary documents, which must be submitted up to 60 days after the end of the grant.
Grant payments
Monthly payments are made to the student by bank transfer in the last 10 days of each month. Time limits may not apply to payments in the month of January, as well as in the first month of the course or in the case of scholarship renewals due to administrative reasons.
It should be emphasised that, in the case of allocating grants, the first month’s payment is subject to the start date of each respective course and depends on whether or not the student is already in Portugal and has successfully completed the application process. In the case of late arrivals, the payment relates to the date of arrival in Portugal.
