The Portuguese State, as expressed in the NGDO Charter and in the Co-operation Agreement entered into between the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Portuguese NGDO Platform, recognises the fundamental role of non-governmental development organisations (NGDOs) in the field of development assistance, humanitarian aid and development education, and seeks to:
- Ensure integration with national, European and international organisations;
- Define and apply the criteria for the granting of support and promote its participation in projects;
- Ensure the registration of non-governmental development organisations.
- Non-governmental organisations (NGDOs) are social and cultural institutions, often for humanitarian purposes and frequently inspired by the social awareness of religious denominations or the ideals of lay movements.
